Use of 'TO' with house/home

Why we use sentences like 'I am going home' but for house we use 'I am going to house' ?

Top answer

I'm going home suggests "you're going to your own house, that is your home" Anonymous but for house we use 'I am going to a house' ? Although, it's grammatically correct, it sounds a little weird. The sentence written above doesn't tell you which house the speaker's going to.

  • It'd make much more sense if it is changed to I'm going to your/his/her/their house.
