Use of the word "remaining"?

Hi,

In the following sentences, can the word "remaining" be used interchangeably?

1. How many leaves are remaining?
2. How many leaves do I have remaining in my plate?

Are these contexts correct?

I know the alternate versions and those don't require "remaining" such as,

How many leaves left? or
How many leaves do I have?

Thanks,
Harry
