Use of the word "fire"

I am wondering if the word fire can be used in the context of : "We fired a major client of ours because he has become a nuisance"

I thought the "fired" could only be used in the context of an employer terminating an employee not an employee terminating an employer.

Thank you very much

I tend to agree with you. We don't fire (sack) our clients, but we can drop or relinquish (stop our association with) them. Chris

When was the word "fire" first used to denote some kind of weapon being sent toward an enemy?
