Use of the word chemistry

Hi

Would you say that the word chemistry is used naturally here?

The married couple could never develop enough chemistry (between them) and got divorced during the third month of their wedding.

Is between them necessary?

It seems very strange to me that a wedding ceremony would last more than three months. I don't think that "chemistry" fits very well here.

Is between them necessary?
