Use of the Colon

Hello there,

I read somewhere that it's more formal when addressing someone in a letter, to use the colon (:) after their name than using a comma (,). Is that correct?

e.g. Dear Mr. Brown:

Thanks

Yes. I was taught to use a colon instead of a comma for all business letters.
