Use of the article 'an'

Please tell me which one is correct.

or

Hi, Say 'a', because the word unit starts with a 'Y' sound, (like the word 'y oung ' , for example). More common would be to say We choose a unit-cell 2 cm wide or We choose a unit-cell with a width of 2 cm. 'Choose' is present tense, 'chose' is past tense.

Hi,

Say 'a', because the word unit starts with a 'Y' sound, (like the word 'young', for example).

More common would be to say

We choose a unit-cell 2 cm wide

or

We choose a unit-cell with a width of 2 cm.

'Choose' is present tense, 'chose' is past tense.

We choose/chose** a unit cell of width 2 cm.

** depending on the tense

use 'a' because 'unit' is pronounced 'you-nit' -that is, it does not start with a vowel sound.

Omit the hyphen
