So I was helping my partner write an email and one of the sentences was the one that follows.

How long does it take to retrieve documents out of archive?

She asked me why is it out of archive instead of out of the archive. My writing maybe wrong with the sentence structure, but if I am not then is there any reason why you would use one or the other.
