Hi

Is this sentence natural in written English? Is the underlined had wrong or optional?

Dislike for her former boss was quickly superseded by the hatred she had developed for the new.

Optional only in the sense that the sentence remains grammatical whether you keep 'had' or remove it.

Personally, I like the 'had'.
