Use of "Staid"

Hi

Is the use of "staid" natural English here? [staid = boring; uninspiring]

Some teachers really need to come out of their staid image.

The first thing I wanted in the news class as a science teacher was to break my staid image in the eyes of those who knew me.

Thanks,

Tom
