Could you correct the following sentence please?

Sooner it will wear off then lose a paint.

For example: I have a pair of trousers for sale. There is a hand-painted pattern on them. Someone who would like to buy it asks whether the paint is long lasting. Could I answer 'Sooner the trousers will wear off than the paint will wash off'.

I have a very strong feeling that the sentence isn't the best if it is correct at all. :-)

You have the right idea but the wrong syntax. I suggest this:

The trousers will wear out sooner than / before the paint washes out.
