use of 'so on' in the middle of sentence

Hi,

Is it correct to use the phrase 'so on' in the middle of the sentence like this?

He always carries too many things like a meal box, a small box containing sanitary items, a small amount of money, and so on in his shoulder bag.

Thank you.

Therefore, it's redundant to use "etc" in the sentence you provided because your list was preceded by "too many things like" (itself a clunky use of phrasing), which informs your audience that what follows is not exhaustive.
