Use of slothful and despondent

Hi

Could you please tell me if the words slothful (lazy) and despondent (dejected) are fairly common among native speakers? Would they sound OK in everyday speech?

Thanks,

Tom

I would say that "despondent" is not unusual -- describing, for instance someone at risk for suicide. I doubt that I've ever hear anyone use "slothful" in conversation. It seems a rather old-fashioned, literary way to say "lazy." Also, the "th-f" combination is somewhat difficult to pronounce.
