Use of simple past and past continues

Hi, nice to meet you guys here, I just started learning English a few days ago, it is even harder than learning my mother language, so, I need your help now.Emotion: embarrassed

The sentence below was copyed from a [simple past and past continues exercise], I don't know how to form the verb 'live' correctly into the lines, please post your answer and the explanation. Thank you.
