What is the more formal way to write this sentence:

This detection's type identifies events which do not agree with an expected pattern or that is an unusual event; for example, Denial of service, ....

or

If you are writing a technical paper or business report. just use e.g. I mean that you don't need to vary the term.

If you are writing formal prose, such as a college essay, don't use the abbreviation e.g.. Use the full phrase, 'f
