Use of semi colons and placement of period

According to MayoClinic.com, laxatives come in several different forms; lubricants, stimulants, stool softeners, or a combination product. “See References 3” ?

The colon, also known as the large intestine, is the part between the cecum and the rectum; it extracts moisture from food residues before they are excreted. “See references 1”.

I would love to know if the semi colon is used properly. Also look at the period after product and excreted. Is it correctly used?

Thank you very much.
