Use of 'semantics'

Hi

Could you please help me understand the use of semantics here?

A couple of days ago, a film was on TV--an angry son and his father about some guest...

Son - But you didn't say that she'd stay here with us?

Father - Semantics, my son, semantics.

Father - Semantics, my son, semantics. ie In this conversation, you are just playing with words, instead of considering what they really mean.

Or the father has tricked the son earlier, and now he claims that the son did not fully understand the meaning (semantics) of what the father said earlier (even though the father did say that "she" would stay with them).

Or maybe the father didn't purposely trick the son. He just changed his mind, and now he is attempting to cover up this change of mind by intimating that the son misund
