Use of 'same' in place of 'it'

Several of my colleagues use the word 'same' in place of 'it' in correspondence. I am unsure as to whether this is correct and why even it would be used?

Example 1 - I have a copy of the fax on my desk. Please collect same any time after 2pm.

Example 2 - The goods arrived in perfect condition. Invoice for same to follow.

Any ideas?

'Same' as here is a bit of 'bizspeak' which is irritating to some and can easily be dispensed with. Avoid it.
