Use of "rationalize"

Hi

(Sorry if I asked this question before...)

Are these sentences natural? I mean rationalize and justify mean the same here?

(Man to his wife)

We must never rationalize/justify our children's mistakes.

We must never rationalize/justify our children's errors.

We must never rationalize/justify our children's wrongdoings.

Thanks,

Tom

Let me try to reply by discussing this vocabulary a little. rationalize has a somewhat negative connotation, justify does not have the same connotation, unless you say eg wrongly justify. Neither of the above are casual, everyday words.

  • You'd usually talk about eg make excuses for.
  • mistakes / errors are rather objective words, ie they may or may not involve wrongdoing.
