Use of "whereas"

Hello everybody,

I got a little question regarding the use of "whereas".

I learnt "whereas" can be used as "while" to introduce an opposition.
I also learnt that "whereas" can be used to say "because".

However, I'd like to know if "whereas" may also be used to suggest, as "while", an action performed in the same time :

"whereas doing smthg, he continued to do smthg"...

Hi Cyrille, 'While' carries both meanings ('opposition' and 'at the same time'), while 'whereas' does not. I also have trouble thinking of a sentence in which either of them means 'because', or finding that definition in a dictionary. If someone else can, I'd be grateful.
