use of question mark?

Hi teachers,

I was just wondering if you could explain these sentences to me and the use of question mark in these sentences?

1. Surely, the most sensible thing to do would be to stay at home this evening?
2. Surely the most sensible thing would be to take some independent advice?

Top answer

Most statements can turned into questions, or given a questioning tone, by adding a question mark. In your examples, the meaning is similar to: 1. Surely, the most sensible thing to do would be to stay at home this evening , wouldn't it?
