Grammar

Use of present simple: [need you to troubleshoot] and [are always ready]

I have made up the examples below.

(1) I'm sad that today is your last day. You've been a great help in our office. Every time we needed you to troubleshoot, you were very happy and ready to help us.

(2) I'm sad that today is your last day. You've been a great help in our office. Every time we need you to troubleshoot, you are happy and ready to help us.

All of my non-native English speaking friends think (1) is correct. Most of them believe (2) is also correct because your help is given regularly even though today is your last day.

Do you think both (1) and (2) are okay? Please help me. Thanks a lot.

#1 is OK. #2 doesn't really work. If you were talking to someone who wasn't leaving, you could say You are a great help in our office.
