Use of prepositions and one other

Hi,

1. Please check if the use of prepositions are correct and also tell me if I can replace them with the ones in parentheses.

... have been working for (in) the past year to get it off the ground ...

... increase the listeners' confidence about (in) language learning ...

2. Why a person would use 'at home' when just 'home' will do fine?well?, I think?

The person must stay at home for two weeks getting ready for a big event.

  • doesn't sound good because the past year is over and yet have been working is in the continuous tense.
  • However, as we don't have a complete sentence, I won't suggest changes to it.
