Vocabulary

use of preposition

extension to the time limit vs extension of the time limit

I googled both of the two. There are plenty of examples of both of the two albeit the latter seems more widely used.

I then consulted my dictionary which gives the construction of "extension of sth."

In my opinion, from lingual point of view, both of and to should be acceptable and fit. They representate a phonomenon where the distinction between right and wrong is obscure or difficult to tell.

do u think my thinking to be correct or deviating from the truth.

Look forward to your comments.

Thanks and regards,

Vincent

it appears to me that there is a slight difference in meaning:

to: you stress that something is done to the limit (not necessarily an extension of it, maybe some additional rules?!)

anyway that is my feeling of it. let`s see what others think.
