Use of 'predate'

Hi

Is the use of predate natural here?

[Predate = take place before]

(--in casual spoken English)

Doesn't the incident predate her birthday? [Didn't the incident take place before her birthday?]

I'm sure Jack's death predates Sonia's. [Jack died before Sonia]

Thanks,

Tom
