Use of plural words

Hi, I often get used by the usage of the letter 's' after words. For example, If I need to say 'The Indian Chemical Industry,' Do I need to add 's' after chemicals and say' The Indian Chemicals Industry.'

Moreover, when I write about the diffrent divisions of a company like chemical, speciality chemical, life science, do I need to use 's' after each division?

Please, let me know the right usage of 's' after words?

Thanks

Hi Mitali, The common usage is that nouns used as adjectives are singular, so that it is 'shoe store', 'chemical industry', 'life science division'. However, local usage would supersede this guideline; that is, the company or institution may have its own preferred terminology. For instance, many universities term the field 'life sciences' (botany, zoology, ecology, etc) and may use the phrase 'life sciences faculty'.
