Use of pay dividends

Hi

Is the use of the idiom pay dividends natural here? I ask because the meaning is slightly literal and the idiom seems to lose its flavor (or figurative taste.)

A – What about your shop in the town?

B- Well, it’s finally paying dividends after the three-year long wait. [Finally giving some profits…]

Thanks,

Tom
