Use of past perfect: taking one more step back

Hi. What is reason for the use of past perfect here? I think we could use a past or present perfect tense instead for no. 1 and for no. 2, I think we could use a past tense instead of the one used.

1.Writing like that can change the meaning of you had written.

2.Always look out before you open the car door. Unfortunate things may happen, such as a motocyle that you had not seen coming toward you.
