I have often seen past participles after is, am, and was I want to know when would we use them, if there are any rules. We use parts of HAVE with the past participle for perfect tense/aspect forms: We have/had finished the work. We use parts of BE plus the past pasrticiple to form the passive voice: The work is/was finished.
