Hi
Is the use of 'out of pocket' natural here? Any suggestions please?
Out of pocket = having no money
I'm sorry I'm a bit out of pocket right now. But I can take you to dinner next week. Promise.
Thanks,
Tom
Hi Tom, I haven't encountered that meaning. I see it this way. Broadly speaking, out of pocket refers to an unexpected expense.

Hi Tom,

I see it this way. Broadly speaking, out of pocket refers to an unexpected expense.
eg I go to another city to visit a client. There is a snowstorm, so I have to stay overnight in a hotel. I pay for the hotel out of my own pocket, but I will be able to get my company to reimburse me.
eg I buy a $100 ticket for a play.
