Use of one indefinite article after another correct?

Hi. Are these correct?

1. His was a message with a bite.

2. His was a speech with a note of urgency.

3. (sort of a definition)

An itinerary is a plan of a trip ...

Sometimes, I tend to make them like these (put the definite article "the" before the first nouns).

1. His was the message with a bite.

2. His was the speech with a note of urgency.

3. (sort of a definition)

An itinerary is the plan of a trip ...
