Use of 'not only..but also'

Does this sentence correctly use the phrase 'not only...but also'?
When Kharas returned home to Thorbardin, he discovered that his fame had spread and he was a hero to not only the Hylar, but also all of the dwarven clans.

Many people have trouble making this properly parallel in nature. I suggest. he was a hero not only to the Hylar, but also to all the dwarven clans. (I usually try to eliminate 'of' after 'all'.)
