Use of no sooner...

Hi

I have seen all three versions of "no sooner sentences". Personally, I don't like #3 and #4 at all, but they exist in Indian English. Can I request your take?

  1. No sooner did they enter the garden, than we heard the shots.
  2. They no sooner entered the garden, than we heard the shots.
  3. No sooner they entered the garden, than we heard the shots.
  4. No sooner than they entered the garden, we heard the shots.

Thanks,

Tom

Apart from this, (1) is correct. In (2) I would prefer "They had no sooner ...".

(3) and (4) are not correct (in British English, or, as far as I am aware, American English).
