Is the use of mind out natural both in BrE and AmE? My dictionary says it is mainly a British idiom. If so, what is the American equivalent?

Mind out, the cup is hot.

It must be; I barely understand it in AmE. The nearest equivalent is, e.g.:

Mind your head—low clearance ahead!
