Use of 'may'

Hello teachers,

There are various uses of modal verbs. I have a question about the modal 'may'.

Sometime we use 'may' to show a fact. like in the second sentence.

The lengths of the haploid and diploid phases vary among different groups in plants.

The lengths of haploid and diploid phases may vary among different groups in plants.

Am I right?

Top answer

Avidlearner The lengths of haploid and diploid phases may vary among different groups in plants. 'May' there indicates the possibility of the haploid and dipolid phases varying.
