Use of "involved".

In the sentence below the word "involved" is used as an adjective.

When I meet a person or a group of people, I get involved in their discussions easily and I get carried away, but in the end, the people start laughing at me, make fun of me - then, I repent and ask myself "If I had not (got)involved, it would have been much better"

Does "get involved" used in above sentence imply that "to become part of something"?

Thanks,
Harry
