Use of Inverted structure after than

Hi, I wrote a sentence below trying to practice the use of inverted structure but im not sure whether it sounds native and grammatically correct.

"Never before had any people more worried about the global warming than have the people in the present days."

or is it also correct to use [are] as alternative to [have] like the sentence below

""Never before had any people more worried about the global warming than are the people in the present days."

many thanks:)
