Use of "in case"

Hi!

Have I used "in case" correctly here? Sorry for posting such a long paragraph but that's my way of letting you know the context Emotion: smile

Jim took an interest in his daughter and maintenance of his marriage only after his wife moved to Greece. That most likely could be explained not with the true care of Jim but with the fact that he would lose residence permit in the European Union in case his marriage is dissolved.

That most likely could be explained not with the true care of Jim He did that not because he is a caring person, but most likely with because of the fact that he would lose his residence permit in the European Union in case his marriage is dissolved.
