Use of good or well

To settle my boyfriend from correcting me-this is embarrassing-so please help.

I say "Bruce is paints cars real good"
My boyfriend corrects me and says "No, Bruce paints cars real well"
What is up with that?

Hi, Sorry, your boyfriend is right. 'Good' is an adjective for use with nouns - "he is a good painter" 'Well' is an adverb - "he paints well". Uneducated native speakers sometimes use 'good' as an adverb in this ungrammatical way, so you might hear it, but it's wrong.

A lot of people say "good" when the rules say to use "well".

The rules are basically as follows.

If it answers the question "What kind of?" use "good".
If it answers the question "How?" use "well".

What kind of food do they have there? (What kind? > good) -- They have good food.
How does Bruce paint cars? (How?> well) -- Bruce paints cars (really)
