Use of get

“She had some pretty severe facial injuries, so did he”

If i say, "she had got some pretty severe...." would that change the meaning? I am always get confused about use of "get". Please help

The problem is using quotation marks in the subject line. The system cannot handle these posts. Please do not use quotation marks in the title. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

It is much more casual. It is not necessary to use "get."

I have a cold. (good)
I have got a cold. (ok, but informal. Do not use it in formal writing.)
