Use of fortitude

Hi

Would you say that the use of fortitude is too formal here? Any other suggestions please?

She strengthened herself to bear her problems with fortitude and dignity.

Thanks,

Tom

I think fortitude seems okay; however, the use of strengthened sounds a little odd. I think these sounds natural: She was determined to bear her problems with fortitude and dignity. She resolved to bear her problems with fortitude and dignity.

The word fortitude seems OK to me It seems to me that the speaker wants to be rather formal. it's not the kind of sentence you say every day.

If you really want a different word, you could consider courage.
