Use of eye as a verb

Hi

In Indian English, it is common to use eye as a verb like this. Could you please tell me how it sounds to you?

  1. Don't eye the cake; it's for the guests. [eye = look greedily at]
  2. (Jokingly)You're eyeing my ice-cream, aren't you?

Thanks,

Tom

In British English it's a fairly common way of using the word as well.
