Hi

Is the use of "expedite" in everyday English OK/natural?

Can you please expedite the matters?

Thanks,

Tom

It's not commonly used, but is sometimes, and probably mostly by people who are likely to use other less common words. As a result when used it makes the request sound more formal and administrative. d

In the US, this is often used in offices. It was almost never heard, until someone started using it about 20 yrs. ago, and it caught on and now we can't get rid of it.

Not really. It's more or less reserved for use in business. To me it sounds much more "official" than "everyday".

Rarely used in spoken English in the Indian sub-continent. It is frequently used in written form in the Government offices in India.
