Is the use of entrust OK here? If no, please edit the sentence. 

He was so honest that many hostel boys often entrusted their valuables to him if they went on a vacation.

The use of entrust is fine. I am not sure what you mean by hostel boys.

I think I should have used mates? Those boys who were living with him in the hostel -- whenever they went out for a vacation, they entrusted their valuables (a camera, etc) to him.

I'd say 'friends from the hostel'. Others may have more up-to-date terms.
