Use of drip

Hi

(Context: hospital)

Could you please tell me if a drip is given to a patient or injected--I mean, is this sentence natural English?

She walked into the room quietly and looked at him. Harry lay motionless in his bed, eyes closed. A strange-color drip was being given to him.

Thanks,

Tom

I think that's OK. A drip certainly isn't injected. I believe a patient is said to be on a drip.
