Use of "dirt"

Hi

Is the use of dirt natural English here?

He had not changed his clothes in days and there was (a lot of) dirt on the collar of his once-white shirt.

Thanks,

Tom

I think more natural is this. He had not changed his clothes in days and the collar of his once-white shirt was dirty. Clive
