Use of crowded

Hi

Is the use of crowded natural here? Any suggestions please?

(When there are too many cars, vans, shoppers, etc on the road (not necessarily a traffic jam)...)

The road was terribly crowded.

Or

Wow, look at the crowd; we'd better take a detour.

The road is congested. There is heavy traffic.
The sidewalks are crowded with pedestrians.
