Use of countable noun form in dictionary definition

Hi, could we use the word 'discussions' instead of the word 'discussion' in what one could call a definition of a certain word?

To XXX means to wisely hinder one from having discussions on a certain topic that isn't wise to talk about in certain circumstances.
