Use of Comma

Hello! Can someone tell me if this sentence is correct?

"So sorry but I did not receive a confirmation from Lisa."

My work is processing emails and I used that statement in an email. I was called out by a colleague and they told me it should be written like this-

"So sorry, but I did not receive a confirmation from Lisa."

Is the comma really necessary?
