Use of "colored clothes"

Hi

Is the use of colored clothes natural English here?

The students were reluctant to wear their uniform during the rehearsal; they wanted to wear colored clothes.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: wear their uniform vs. wear uniform is the same?

It sounds a bit odd, but if that's what they said they wanted, who am I to object? I have to think, however, that you meant "colorful clothes" or maybe something like "clothes with some color to them."
