Use of chime

Hi

I am aware that most clocks strike hourly and they don't strike at a time like 8:30 or 7:15. Can we use the term chime instead?

The clock chimed 8:30.

Thanks,

Tom

  • There are some clocks, especially the old-fashioned alarm clocks, with two small bells on them.

Yes. They can chime on the hour, too. It makes the noise of a small bell, called a chime.
